The holiday season is upon us and for those of you who need to finish up your holiday shopping, here are a list of direct to DVD movies that many people do not know about.

SlamDunk

A movie about a financially struggling  basketball team in the Universal Basketball League who resorts to thuggery to save financial face.  The team brings in three brothers that not great but bring in the fans.  They start taking several flagarant fouls and ejections follow.  The highlight of the movie is when a brother gets hit in the forehead with a pop can.

Operation Bettman

Thirty business colleagues who earn their fortune in lucrative international business deals involving selling Iowa corn.  They enter into horse racing by buying the most expensive horses and hiring high priced, respected jockeys.  Ignoring the need to hire good trainers that can help them win mid-level stakes races, they find that they win once in a while but usually it is the horses who, are well trained even though they had less money spent on them, are winning the races.  What will happen when the colleagues start to realize what is happening and how will this business partnership hold up?  They eventually have to move to Europe to run steeplechases and other races going clockwise around the track.

Challenge THIS!!!!

A documentary looking into instant replay's effect on sports.  There are a few interesting things in the movie.  A Florida Little League baseball association is looking into using instant replay during their games because of an onslaught of parents believing that umpires are out to get their son or daughter's baseball team by purposely making "absolutely horrible calls" which frequently turns some fans into having screaming rages.  Another scene looks at how NFL coaches use that red flag in their back pocket and how effective they are at it.

R@p$ody

A collection of star NBA players suddenly retire from the league to pursue their dream career- as rap singers.  The money is supposed to be better than in the League.  One states that he can't feed his family on the meager, blue collar, eight figure salary he makes. They totally ruin their already tarnished reputation and when all their money runs out the League general managers refuse to sign them and are forced to go play ball in eastern Europe to be able to subsist.

2B or Not 2B

The whole movie takes place in a college football stadium in California.  A band of friends who have all met in Section 2B over the years are slowly being weeded out because of higher ticket prices brought on by the university having to pay amateur college players a stipend for their services.  This film received funding from the Fans for Amateur College Athletes Association of America (FACAAA), a group which advocates that student athletes are at school to get an education while participating in intercollegiate athletics.

Poker on DVD

This one is for all of you who cannot get enough of all of these Poker shows that are airing on most all of the basic cable channels now.  For one low price, you get 12 discs that have 146 hours of nonstop, commercial free poker.

Long Shot

A puny, weak middle infielder knocks in a ghastly 10 runs in his rookie season.  The next year, a surprisingly bigger, stronger player comes to spring training.  This year he has 150 RBI and leads his team to the playoffs.  The most memorable scene is when he hits the scoreboard at Wrigley Field, a feat which has never been accomplished.  Suspicions arise when after four years in the major leagues, he hits 1, 45, 60 and 77 home runs respectively.  The jelly bowl hits the floor when he actually hits a home run at Petco Park in San Diego, where no one has ever hit a home run, but plenty have smashed stand-up triples into the deep alleys of the field.
